"You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives." - Clay P. Beford

Transitional Learning Charter School (TLC)
Students at TLC have been involved in many volunteering sites throughout Santa Clarita, such as the Senior Center, Help the Children, Santa Clarita Libraries and Henry Mayo Hospital. Students have been gaining work experience at these volunteer sites and adding these experiences to their resume. Some students have been working with Career Visions to gain work experience and earning a paycheck. Three students are working on their own after school or on the weekends.

TLC students visited the Vietnam Wall at the Westfield Mall. Many of the students were touched by the stories and the historical landmark. They learned the meaning of the Wall and read the names of the heroes who made history and fought for our freedom.

The Social Committee planned a food drive, to benefit for the Santa Clarita Food Pantry. Students brought in not only canned and boxed items, but also hygiene and personal items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant and soap. Classes competed against one another to determine the winner of the food drive. The results were as follows 1st place Mr. Bartel's class with 104 pounds of food, 2nd place Mrs. Bettencourt with 93 pounds, 3rd place Mrs. Knebel with 83 pounds and 4th place Mrs. Patterson's class with 20 pounds of donated food. The students learned valuable lessons about giving back to their community, and discovered that many people are less fortunate than themselves.

In Novemeber all students participated in the Turkey Bowl at Valencia Lanes. Each class had their team bowl to declare the best player in their class. After each class selected their best player the bowl off began. Mrs. Bettencourt's class took first place, Mrs. Kneble second, Mr. Bartel third and Mrs. Patterson fourth. Students and staff had a great time enjoying each other's company and had lunch at local restaurant.

Pleasantview Industry Banquet honors former TLC students:
sped-pleasantviewPleasantview Industry held their 14th annual banquet on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013. Former Wm. S. Hart District students from the Transition Learning Charter (TLC) program were presented. These students are employed with Pleasantview Industry either in work activities, enclave or supported employment. Students have shared their enjoyment with going to work, being around and collaborating with co-workers, and being a part of their community. Seeing these young adults fulfill their post-secondary goals is what our transition team is all about.
